Facts (Source: American Wind Energy Association)
- 1 megawatt of wind energy is enough to power over 300 homes annually
- 16,818MW total installed wind energy in the U.S. spanning 34 states
- 5,244MW installed in the U.S. in 2007, injecting over $9 billion into the economy
- U.S. wind farms will generate 48 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) of wind energy in 2008, just over 1% of U.S. electricity supply, powering the equivalent of over 4.5 million homes
- The total amount of electricity that could potentially be generated from wind in the U.S. has been estimated at 10,777 billion kwh annually – more than twice the electricity generated in the U.S. today
U.S. Wind Energy Policy
- 25 States as well as D.C. have adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards, which are state policies that require electricity providers to obtain a minimum percentage of their power from renewable energy resources by a certain date
